Every month we profile an upcoming event in the United States that revolves around web, design, and advertising, and this month we’re talking about CascadiaFest in Blaine, WA. Lately, we’ve been seeing less giant web conferences that cover EVERYTHING but instead are seeing smaller events that focus on subsets of the larger web design conversation. CascadiaFast is concerned with JavaScript and CSS – odd that you can get a whole conference out of that, but they’ve lined up an excellent group of presenters, so you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Here at Envy Creative, we all get excited about different things, and Cascadia Fest 2015 sounds like something that could satisfy any person in our field. Our Creative Director Nick Votto took one look at this year’s offerings and zeroed in on Kenneth Ormandy‘s talk entitled “Efficient Web Type, c. 1556” because Nick’s a bit of typography snob. Well, that might be a little harsh, but Nick understands the importance of type in web design, so it is no surprise to see this talk on the top of his list.

When I threw it to Justin Ferrari, he was impressed by the scope of the conference’s topics, but was especially interested in “Open Source Design: A Call To Arms” from IBM Design‘s Una Kravets. You might know Una as the designer who envisioned a more grown-up look to theĀ Harry PotterĀ book series, so this presentation is a must-see indeed. Ferrari is a bit of an open-source advocate here at Envy Creative, so it will be interesting to get his take on Kravets’ talk when it is finally presented.

Tickets are still on sale, ranging from $200-600, though it looks like you’ll have to find a different hotel and trek to the venue because it is sold out for most of the days.
